Residents of a Pretoria West community clashed with police on Thursday during a violent protest that resulted in the blocking of roads and burning of public property.
The protesters from the informal settlement called Gomora numbering about a 1000 were dispersed by riot police who fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades to control the crowd, local media News24 reported.
The protesters are reported to have attacked the police, security services and journalists with stones.
They also blocked roads and burned tyres and other public buildings including a learning centre of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in the province.
